The film fraternity was left in shock when more than 40% shows of Laal Singh Chaddha and Raksha Bandhan were canceled due to low footfall. The disastrous outcome was a result of netizens coming together to boycott Laal Singh Chaddha due to the protagonists’ (Aamir Khan’s) comment on why he felt unsafe living in India. Raksha Bandhan by Akshay Kumar faced a similar fate due to formers seeming inappropriate comments on religion. Despite a partial holiday across India, the seats were left empty in most theatres. Around 1000 shows were cancelled of Rakshabandhan and 1600 shows of Laal Singh Chaddha had to be canceled. A distributor exulted, It’s a dark weekend for us, Both Aamir and Akshay should introspect about their choices of films. The fans have seemingly rejected both movies in hopes of something bigger and better. Some theaters saw an occupancy of as low as 15%. The same trend continued over the weekend. What do you think? Is boycotting Aamir’s and Akshay’s movies a dent big enough to impact them?Do you favor the netizens? or Do you think Aamir and Akshay aren’t in the wrong? Comment down below.
