Since then, 16 people have been killed in an ongoing crackdown on protests, the report said, adding that the actual number is likely to be much higher. Anger over the alleged rape of a teenage girl by a police commander in the region sparked the protests in Zahedan, which occurred while Iran was already racked by protests over the death of Mahsa Amini, who had been arrested by the Tehran morality police.According to reports, security forces fired live ammunition, metal pellets, and teargas at protesters, bystanders, and worshippers when they gathered for a demonstration outside a police station in Zahedan on September 30 following Friday prayers. The majority of victims were shot in the head, heart, neck, and torso, indicating a clear intent to kill or seriously injure.  The report added that the gunfire originated from the police station rooftop. It was added that at least three children were killed on September 30. Five members of the Revolutionary Guards were killed in attacks by extremists on police stations, according to Iranian officials. However, beyond a minority of protesters who threw stones at the police station, it had found no evidence that the behavior of protesters posed a significant threat to security forces.
