In order to address the problems and issues that contribute to stress and suicide- Lack of confidence brought on by subpar performance and the demanding grind at coaching centres, fierce rivalry for the few top seats and pressure from parents, physical and emotional stress, monetary restraints, and romantic relationships,, the government plans to introduce a new law, the Rajasthan Coaching Institutes (Control and Regulation) Bill.

The new Bill is well-intentioned, and while it proposes mandatory counselling and aptitude testing for admission to coaching institutions in order to weed out students who are not suited for the stream and sharing results with guardians, its implementation is equally important. It would be unfortunate if it followed the same course as the state government’s 2018 regulations for the coaching facilities in Kota. Despite calls for the establishment of psychological support services and other assistance for students, as well as regulations of private colleges, the rise in fatal instances indicates significant enforcement gaps.
The number of reported student suicides peaked in the years from 2019 to 2022, when 52 students took the ultimate step, with 15 reported in 2022 alone. Given the alarming figures, parents must also have frank conversations with their kids about their aptitude and job preferences in order to avoid placing them in awkward situations. In addition to giving students a decent education, they should also provide them with the skills necessary to face life’s obstacles head-on, including how to deal with failures in both professional and personal contexts. Life is valuable.
