He (Gill) is that good right now, and whether he scores or not, on form and merit, he deserves a chance, Shastri said in the most recent episode of ICC review.
According to Shastri, including Gill in the starting XI instead of KL Rahul will not affect the team’s winning combination because it comes down to a player’s performance.
Certainly not. To put it bluntly, it all comes down to performance. You tape it to the board. This is an example of a performance. It’s a difficult thing for a coach to do, and I remember having to do it many times, where you simply sit down and explain to the player, ‘This is what’s on the board, what do you think?’ Shastri added.
The third Test begins on Wednesday (March 1) in Indore, and KL Rahul is likely to be replaced by Gill.

While Rahul has struggled recently, Gill has been on fire in all formats. The 23-year-old has scored 157 runs in his last four innings and, given his ability to bowl spin, he is likely to excel against the Australians, even if the Indore pitch aids spinners.
