I think they do. I have two big grandkids and the others are very small. But even little Inaaya wrote me a letter saying, ‘You are super and stay super’. Now that’s really big. It’s that sort of thing. You know when to help and when not to help. I remember taking Soha to school and one boy came and pushed her. She fell down and I was ready to fight the battle. But before I could do that Soha got up and pushed the boy right back. So, I said, ‘Okay, I don’t have to get involved in this’, Sharmila told NDTV.
She continued, When you have a family, you stay tuned and try to help each other. I think as a senior person, you have to leave your door open. And if they want to talk to you, they will and if they don’t want to talk to you, they won’t. But you always know what is happening and you can throw hints here and there and be available in case you want.

In the same interview, Sharmila also spoke about how people used to tell her that her marriage to Tiger Pataudi (Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi) will not last because she was already a big star at that time. But even after her marriage, she kept working and also gave time to her family members.
When I got married at the height of my career, everybody said that it’s very stupid to get married at this stage, you won’t be accepted. Others said that their marriage will break up if they continue to work. But it didn’t happen the way they predicted. So I think it was meant to be. I couldn’t give up work and I couldn’t give up my family, she said.

When I came back home one night, everybody was asleep. I realized that I needed to wake up people and want to talk to them because I knew at that point that I couldn’t be a single career person. The family was very important to me. And I wanted both. And it’s not easy always. You need other people’s support also, which you get it. But if you want something, then you have to work for it. And I did and I think I can say that I got what I wanted, she added.
