Provincial elections have been scheduled for the summer in Punjab and Khyber Pukhtunkhwa, where the assemblies were dissolved by Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf (PTI). However, national elections are scheduled for the fall, after the National Assembly has completed its entire term in August.
Elections are at risk, but if Khan wins, it’s also unclear if he’ll be around to take back the position from which he was removed in a vote of no-confidence in April. The ruling alliance is pursuing Khan in an effort to prevent him from suffering the same fate as Nawaz Sharif, who was disqualified from holding public office as a result of the Panama Papers case.

The Pakistan Army no longer has any use for the selected nominee for prime minister. The Army believed Sharif was moving too close to India after Prime Minister Narendra Modi made an unscheduled visit at Sharif’s Raiwind farmhouse in late 2015.
Khan also strained ties between the US Army and the military. After the US’ failure in Afghanistan, the Pakistani Army was threatened with losing its status as a frontline state and wished to slink back into favor.
As part of its China-centric shift to the East, the US has been replacing Pakistan with India. Since Islamabad has imitated New Delhi in adopting an equal-opinion position on the Ukraine war, Pakistan must also maintain its composure. It also wants to profit from US dissatisfaction with India’s independent stance on the conflict.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) and Pakistan are presently negotiating a new bailout plan. Keeping the US happy is important because it controls the money.
The outcomes of the 2022 byelection demonstrate that he cannot be removed from office through elections. Other strategies need to be considered, such as making a big deal out of the Toshakhana case or keeping up the warning against the female judge, even though Khan has since apologized.
The police’s momentary inattention only indicates that the present crisis is over; however, more of these crises are still to come before the elections. The fact that such crises can be resolved demonstrates Pakistan’s fortitude, but if the Army intervenes on the grounds of ongoing political unrest or if Khan is subsequently denied victory in an election, democracy loses.
