We might start by examining the calibre of teacher preparation. Are our teachers equipped to impart the skills of the twenty-first century to our students? Are we providing them with the instruction and training necessary to hone their abilities and skills? Due to resource limitations, many of the current institutes of teacher education find it difficult to provide the necessary level of rigour.

    A skill must be practised and honed over time in order to be acquired; it cannot be learned just by reading a book. With the advent of 4-year integrated BEd programs, the New Education Policy has suggested a change to the current model of teacher education. This programme provides additional entry points into the teaching profession by combining a BA or BSc degree with a BEd degree to create a dual-major bachelor’s degree.
    Prospective teachers will now need to concentrate on subject content and pedagogical expertise by participating in student teaching in the government or private school network of the higher education institution. obtaining the necessary knowledge and abilities to effectively give a high-quality education is now essential for teaching, in addition to obtaining a degree.
    NEP provides a professional advancement plan for teachers inside the educational system and acknowledges the value of qualified educators at all levels. Teachers will continue to be mobile and progress through the professional stages of novice teacher, proficient teacher, expert teacher, and lead teacher based on their competency and expertise. This change is essential to delivering great learning opportunities for all students by combining relevant pedagogy.

    Teachers, who in India are the main agents of change, have a great deal of potential thanks to NEP 2020. The NEP recognises the crucial role performed by teachers in the educational system and gives recommendations on teacher education, recruitment, career advancement, and continual professional development. These interventions are suggested at various points in a teacher’s life cycle.
    Only then will we be able to prepare the Indian Education System and our children to meet the needs of the 21st century. These measures must be executed successfully and efficiently across our states and union territories with the assistance of all essential stakeholders.
