As soon as the fire broke out, the soldiers tried to evacuate the truck, but before they could do so, the flames engulfed the entire vehicle. The four soldiers were trapped inside and were charred to death before any help could reach them.
The deceased soldiers have been identified as Havaldar Gajendra Singh, Naik Balveer Singh, Sepoy Hardeep Singh, and Sepoy Suraj Kumar. All of them were from the 9 Sikh Regiment and were highly trained soldiers. The incident has sent shock waves across the country, and condolences have been pouring in for the families of the deceased soldiers. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also took to Twitter to express his grief, saying, Pained by the loss of lives due to a fire in a truck carrying soldiers in Poonch. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. May the injured recover quickly.
The army has ordered a high-level inquiry into the incident, and the officials have assured that all necessary steps will be taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
This is not the first time that such an incident has occurred in Jammu and Kashmir. In the past, several soldiers have lost their lives due to accidents and terrorist attacks. The security forces continue to operate in difficult terrain and face constant threats from across the border, making their job even more challenging.
The sacrifices made by our soldiers will always be remembered, and the nation stands with them and their families in this difficult time
