The most recent acquittal has dealt the targeted minority community’s impacted families yet another blow, which they have dejectedly dubbed a murder of justice. They already doubt the recent reprieve given to some of the prisoners.
In the Naroda Patiya riots, which claimed 97 lives, Maya Kodnani was infamously given a 28-year prison sentence by a trial court before being freed by the Gujarat High Court. They are also upset about the prisoners who were serving time for the gangrape of Bilkis Bano and the murder of her family members in the 2002 pogrom being released early. Justice must be done.
