Because he held the fort from one end, other Punjab batters were able to express themselves more freely. With the added responsibility of captaining the team, the out-of-favour India batter has begun the ongoing IPL season on a high note, scoring 126 runs in two innings.
The Consistent UnderdogDhawan’s success in the IPL is nothing new. For many years, he has been one of the league’s most consistent batters. A quick look at his IPL stats will reveal how outstanding he has been.
The southpaw is only second in all-time run-scorers to Virat Kohli, which speaks volumes about his incredible IPL career. The opener has scored 6,370 runs in 208 innings, including two centuries and 48 fifties. Despite consistently outstanding performances, Dhawan’s name rarely appears on lists of the IPL’s greatest players.
Biasedness in the OpenOther batters who have scored fewer runs than him are frequently hailed as the greatest IPL cricketer of all time, including Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma.
When we compare how both of these Indian cricket talismans have performed in the IPL over the last few years, the disparity is startling. In the last five years, Dhawan has scored 2,809 runs in 81 IPL innings, averaging 40.12. Rohit, on the other hand, has only scored 1,673 runs in 63 innings, averaging 25.16.

Dhawan has surpassed India’s captain in terms of strike rate as well as runs and averages. He has scored 133.44 runs per 100 balls faced, while MI’s captain has only scored 126.55.
These statistics clearly show that Dhawan has been a much better IPL batter than the Indian captain in recent years. Aside from Dhawan, he also chastised Kohli for his slow strike rate but said nothing about Mumbai Indians and Team India captain Rohit Sharma.
It demonstrates that this bias is not limited to fans; experts are also responsible for spreading it.
