The decision comes after Patel played a crucial role in the Capitals’ win over the Royal Challengers Bangalore in their last match.
Patel, who is known for his left-arm spin, batted at number 6 in the Capitals’ last game and scored a quickfire 17 off just 8 balls, which included two boundaries and a six. His innings helped the Capitals chase down a target of 172 with six balls to spare.
However, with the Titans boasting a strong bowling attack, the Capitals are reportedly mulling the idea of promoting Patel up the batting order in order to provide some impetus to the innings.
Axar is a talented all-rounder and he showed his batting skills in the last match. We are considering giving him a promotion in the batting order for the upcoming game against the Titans, a source from the Capitals management said.
If the Capitals do decide to promote Patel, it is likely that he will bat at number 5, ahead of wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant. This move could also allow the Capitals to play an extra bowler, which could be crucial on a slow wicket in Ahmedabad.
The Titans, who are currently in second place in the IPL standings, have a strong bowling attack led by pacer Jasprit Bumrah and spinner Rashid Khan. The Capitals, on the other hand, are in fifth place and will be looking to secure a win to keep their hopes of qualifying for the playoffs alive
