Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has announced the suspension of Lionel Messi for two weeks following an unapproved trip to Saudi Arabia. The Argentine superstar joined his national team for a World Cup qualifier against Brazil, but reportedly decided to make a detour to Saudi Arabia to attend a charity event without PSG’s permission.
According to sources close to the club, PSG were not informed about Messi’s trip, which led to the club taking disciplinary action. The two-week suspension will see Messi miss two Ligue 1 matches against Montpellier and Nice, as well as a crucial Champions League clash against RB Leipzig.
In a statement released by PSG, the club said, Lionel Messi was summoned for a disciplinary hearing following his unapproved trip to Saudi Arabia. After careful consideration, the club has decided to suspend the player for two weeks. The club remains committed to enforcing its code of conduct and expects all players to adhere to the rules and regulations.
Messi’s absence will be a blow for PSG as they look to defend their Ligue 1 title and progress in the Champions League. The 34-year-old has been in fine form since joining the Parisian club in the summer, scoring six goals and providing four assists in just eight appearances.
It remains to be seen whether Messi will appeal the decision, but for now, he will have to sit out PSG’s upcoming matches.
