In the latest news from the English Premier League 2022-23 season, Chelsea managed to halt their recent free fall by securing a 2-0 win against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Sunday.
After a run of four games without a win, including a shock home defeat to Burnley last week, Chelsea were under pressure to get a result against Bournemouth, who were sitting in mid-table.
The visitors got off to a good start and took the lead in the 25th minute, when Kai Havertz slotted home after a good run and cross from Marcos Alonso. Bournemouth tried to respond, but Chelsea’s defense held firm, with goalkeeper Edouard Mendy making some crucial saves.
In the second half, Chelsea doubled their lead through Timo Werner, who scored his first goal of the season in the 62nd minute after a neat pass from Jorginho. Bournemouth continued to press, but Chelsea held on for a much-needed victory.
The win moves Chelsea up to seventh place in the table, just three points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur, while Bournemouth remain in 11th place.
After the game, Chelsea’s manager, Thomas Tuchel, was pleased with his team’s performance, saying, We needed this win, especially after the disappointment of last week. The players showed character and determination, and we deserved the three points.
Meanwhile, Bournemouth’s manager, Scott Parker, was left frustrated by his team’s lack of cutting edge in front of goal, saying, We had our chances, but we didn’t take them. We need to be more clinical if we want to compete at this level.
Chelsea will be looking to build on this win when they face Aston Villa in their next league game, while Bournemouth will be hoping to bounce back when they take on Newcastle United.
