In a bold statement, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Najam Sethi has announced that if India does not agree to play a bilateral series in Pakistan, then the Pakistani cricket team will not travel to India for the upcoming World Cup. The statement came amidst growing tensions between the two neighboring countries over issues such as cross-border terrorism and the Kashmir dispute.Speaking at a press conference in Lahore, Sethi stated that If India doesn’t come to Pakistan, we will not be going to India for the World Cup. He further added, We have already informed the International Cricket Council (ICC) about our stance and we hope that they will support us in this matter.
Sethi’s statement comes just a few days after the Indian cricket board (BCCI) reportedly refused to play a bilateral series with Pakistan in the UAE, citing political tensions between the two countries. This has been a long-standing issue, with the two countries not having played a bilateral series since 2012-2013 due to political tensions.
The World Cup is scheduled to be held in India in 2023, and with Sethi’s statement, it remains to be seen how the ICC and the BCCI will respond. The PCB chief’s statement is likely to add fuel to the already tense relations between the two cricketing nations.
The ICC has not yet responded to Sethi’s statement, but it is expected that they will hold discussions with the PCB and BCCI to find a resolution to this issue. The ICC has previously stated that it does not want politics to interfere with cricket and that it is committed to promoting the game in all countries.
