Bluesky is the latest app in the long list of apps that are looking to steal Twitteru2019s thunder after the chaotic takeover of Twitter by Elon Musk. The service is gaining traction among Twitter power users, attracting prominent personalities including US Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and fashion model Chrissy Teigen, who have millions of followers on Twitter, joined the platform.
It is created by the Twitteru2019s co-founder Jack Dorsey and is now the talk of Silicon Valley. People are scrambling to secure an invite to join the app that is still in testing phase.
Here are some details on the service:
    What Is Bluesky?
It is a social media service which is text focused service launched for selected users in February. The users can post short messages of upto 300 characters, and pictures. So far there is no support for videos and direct messages, or DMs so far. The platform looks and feels like Twitter as its backers want users from the Elon Musk owned site to feel at home, through posts on the app are referred to as u2018skeetsu2019, not tweets
In many aspects Bluesky is similar to its counterpart Mastodon, which also runs on decentralised framework, which gives users more control over how their data is stored and how the content is moderated. Bluesky offers a lot of customization which allows users to build independent social media experiences and the users can join a specific u2018serveru2019, which has its own unique set of rules, interests and participants.
How Is It Different From Twitter
Bluesky more or less offers same experience to users which Twitter offers with few exceptions. You can create profiles and post short messages with texts and images. On the timeline, Bluesky has u2018whatu2019s hotu2019 and following feed which is again similar to the counterpart Twitter.
The most different and interesting part is that, unlike Twitter, Blueskyu2019s core framework allows ofr various customisations.
As per the Bluesky blog post, u201cInstead of one site running the network, you can have many sites. It means you get a choice of provider, and individuals and businesses can self-host if they want.u201d
    How Popular Is Bluesky?
According to Forbes magazine, citing data from Data.ai, the Bluesky app has been downloaded 360,0000 times and is currently ahead of some of the popular platforms such as LinkedIn, Bing and Zoom in the Apple App Store ranking.
The company itself informed Bloomberg News that it has over 40,000 users. The company began to sign up users on the wait-list early this year and announced its biggest single-day jump last week.
The hype over Bluesky came as Dorsey used the platform to say that he no longer thought that Musk was the right leader for Twitter, the site he co-created in 2006.
