He has been openly interacting with Russia during the Ukraine conflict, so it’s no surprise that Russian President Putin was quick to congratulate his dear friend and attribute Erdogan’s success to the implementation of a free-range foreign policy.
Turkish influence in the region makes it difficult for the West to convince Erdogan to drop his opposition to Sweden’s NATO membership application. He has accused Stockholm of being soft on terrorist organizations that are antagonistic to Ankara and of not doing enough to put an end to demonstrations that involve burning the Quran.

India criticized Turkiye earlier this year for bringing up the Kashmir issue at the UN Human Rights Council just weeks after New Delhi launched Operation Dost to deliver help to the earthquake-devastated country. Their connections should be strengthened through their common interests.
