Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang stated that Beijing favours the quick restart of negotiations between Palestine and Israel based on the two-state solution and is prepared to take an active role. This statement came amid the visit of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to China. This is consistent with China’s goal of overtaking the US as the region’s overseer and becoming a more significant geopolitical role in West Asia.

China had proposed a peace strategy earlier this year with the intention of lowering hostilities between Russia and Ukraine. The US and its allies, who have been militarising Ukraine in an effort to weaken Russia, were also targeted by this operation.
As a result of the proposal’s failure to gain traction, Beijing is now concentrating more on West Asia’s oil-rich region. More crucially, China is interested in changing its image to position itself as a powerhouse that deserves to be recognised and feared equally.
America’s decision to rejoin the UN cultural and scientific organisation was motivated by China’s rising influence in UNESCO governance. After UNESCO decided to admit Palestine as a member state in 2011, the US and Israel ceased to provide financial support. It is obvious that the US is now putting its own interests first, even at the risk of angering Israel, a steadfast friend.

The Chinese menace is also being blamed for the strengthening defence and strategic relations between the US and India. The pressure to reevaluate its foreign policy and go beyond the G20 presidency in order to seize the initiative in the international arena has fallen on New Delhi as a result of China’s overreaching diplomatic and military efforts.
