A family adoption programme is the standard practice intended to assure an outreach to the villages, whereby each MBBS student adopts five rural households and makes 26 visits throughout the duration of their education, totaling 78 hours. For medical students to be eligible to take tests, they must attend at least 80% of the family visits in order to assure adherence to this clinical and practical approach.

According to the Rural Health Statistics, 2021u201322, the local Community Health Centres are experiencing a doctor deficit of more than 50%. Previous initiatives to change these numbers, such as providing bond money for physicians graduating from government schools where their education is subsidised to serve in rural areas, haven’t had much of an impact.
The relationships that physicians now form with country households while they are still in school may motivate them to help the less fortunate rather than merely pursue lucrative positions at big hospitals.
