New Delhi, India – In the ongoing controversy surrounding the national wrestling trials, the group of protesting wrestlers clarified that they did not demand exemption from the trials but merely requested for additional time to adequately prepare themselves. The wrestlers, who have been expressing their concerns over the lack of preparation and training facilities, clarified their stance in a press conference held in New Delhi.
The wrestlers, representing various wrestling clubs and academies across the country, voiced their grievances regarding the hurried scheduling of the trials, which they claimed left them with insufficient time to fine-tune their skills and fitness levels. They argued that a fair and competitive environment could only be ensured if wrestlers were given ample time to prepare adequately.
One of the prominent spokespersons of the protesting group, Hardeep Singh, a renowned wrestler and Commonwealth Games medalist, addressed the media. Singh clarified that their intention was never to seek an exemption from the trials, as they firmly believed in the importance of fair competition. Instead, they appealed to the authorities for a reasonable extension of the deadline, allowing them enough time to train, focus, and optimize their performance.
The wrestlers also highlighted the challenges they faced due to the lack of training facilities, citing the scarcity of proper wrestling mats, inadequate coaching staff, and limited access to gymnasiums and equipment. They emphasized the need for a conducive training environment to develop their skills and represent the nation effectively on the international stage.
While expressing their respect for the national federation and acknowledging the importance of trials in the selection process, the protesting wrestlers called for a collaborative approach between the authorities and the athletes. They urged the federation to understand their concerns and work towards finding a mutually beneficial solution that would prioritize the development and success of Indian wrestling.
The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) responded to the wrestlers’ concerns, expressing their willingness to engage in discussions and address the issues raised. They affirmed their commitment to the growth and welfare of Indian wrestling and assured the athletes that their grievances would be taken into serious consideration.
The ongoing dialogue between the protesting wrestlers and the federation has sparked optimism for a resolution that would strike a balance between the athletes’ training needs and the federation’s responsibilities to ensure a fair selection process.
The wrestling community, sports enthusiasts, and fans are closely monitoring the developments, hoping for an amicable resolution that upholds the spirit of fair competition while providing athletes with the necessary support and resources to excel in their endeavors.
