Australian cricket icon Allan Border has revealed that he has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, a degenerative neurological disorder. The former captain, renowned for his steely determination and unmatched contribution to the sport, shared the news with his fans and the cricketing community, vowing to face the challenge head-on.
Border, 67, who captained the Australian cricket team from 1984 to 1994 and led them to their first World Cup victory in 1987, expressed his determination to confront Parkinson’s disease with the same resilience he displayed on the cricket pitch.

In a heartfelt statement, Border said, It is with a heavy heart that I share the news of my Parkinson’s diagnosis. It has been an emotional journey coming to terms with it, but I am ready to face this new challenge. Cricket has taught me to never back down, and I plan to tackle this disease with the same spirit.
Parkinson’s disease is a progressive disorder that affects movement, causing symptoms such as tremors, stiffness, and balance issues. Despite the challenges that lie ahead, Border remains resolute in his commitment to maintaining a positive outlook and confronting the disease head-on.
I have always believed in taking life one day at a time, and that approach will serve me well in this battle. I have an incredible support system, including my family, friends, and the cricketing fraternity, who have already shown their unwavering support, Border added.
Known for his gritty batting and impeccable leadership skills, Border amassed 11,174 runs in Test cricket, including 27 centuries. He became the first Australian to reach the milestone of 10,000 Test runs, earning a reputation as one of the finest cricketers of his generation.
When asked about his cricketing achievements and whether he would now pursue another century – a landmark 100 – Border responded with a touch of humor, No way am I going to get another 100 now!
