Several additional structures, including a place of worship, as well as several automobiles and other vehicles were also damaged or destroyed. Under the conflagration’s wreckage, tension is still percolating. It will take days for things to return to normal because several families and individuals have fled their houses and numerous more have locked themselves.

Even then, many of them would have transformed from being human into community creatures, as riots sometimes do to people, and their worlds would have been split into ours and theirs.
The VHP-organised Brij Mandal Jalabhishek Yatra, a religious procession, was where the initial conflicts started. There was little doubt that the planned yatra through a mostly Muslim region was causing friction. A social media video announcing the participation of infamous cow vigilante and murder suspect Monu Manesar further exacerbated the situation.
Participants in the yatra were armed and screamed incendiary chants. Both sides had prepared themselves to be provoked by the other, thus there was stone-pelting from the opposite side. The spark quickly spread to new locations once it was sparked. The incident was managed using standard processes outlined in the script. A call for peace was issued, more forces were dispatched, and senior members of both groups’ leadership met with the police and the administration.

There are many questions that need to be answered, despite the fact that there is a game of mutual blame between the two sides and among the many people who were involved in it in various ways.
There are two significant queries: Why was permission granted to hold the yatra in such a tense environment, and why did the police not detain the provocateurs? It is the administration’s duty to guard against any threat to the peace, to take action to avoid damage to property and loss of life, and to efficiently handle any disturbances of the peace.
However, in all of them, the state government and the administration have been careless. The yatra was troubled, according to particular intelligence reports, but nothing was done about it. Only political cues are used by the police, and politicians have their own agendas. Elections are coming up, so perhaps riots are nothing new.
