    China has emphasized that in order to cooperatively preserve peace and tranquility in the border region, both parties should take into account the overall goals of their bilateral relations and handle properly the border problem.
    The Indian Government claims that PM Modi expressed to Xi New Delhi’s worries on the outstanding issues along the Line of Actual Control in eastern Ladakh, emphasizing the need of maintaining peace and tranquility in border areas for the normalization of India-China relations.
    It is obvious that the two sides are maintaining their positions, with China eager to separate the border conflict from the two countries’ wider bilateral relations and India unwilling to compromise. A formal meeting between President Xi and PM Modi needs to be set up because he is anticipated to attend the G20 conference in New Delhi next monthu2014his first visit to India in nearly four years.

    Although India and China have held 19 rounds of Corps Commander-level negotiations over the past three years, the significance of a thorough exchange of information cannot be emphasized. Furthermore, Beijing must move beyond platitudes and exert real effort to hasten the disengagement and de-escalation of the situation at the border.
