According to the Center’s plan, there will be three levels of voting in J&K: for panchayats, local governments, and the legislative Assembly.

If everything goes according to plan, it is anticipated that at least one election will take place before the end of the year since the voters’ list revision is scheduled to be finished in about a month.
According to the Centre’s claims that terror-related incidents have decreased by 45% since 2018 and infiltration cases have decreased by 90%, hastening the election process is urgently needed.
At the same time, attempts to sabotage the election process must be thwarted by the Central Government and the UT administration. In the upcoming months, those opposed to peace and stability in J&K will inevitably turn to violence and propaganda. Increased security and monitoring are required to give voters trust.

The restoration of statehood should follow a free, fair, and peaceful election as the inevitable next step. Despite the Centre’s frequent claims that J&K’s UT status is only a temporary solution, it has not provided a timeline for correcting the downgrading that was made four years ago. 2014 marked the most recent Assembly elections in J&K. An excellent chance to start a fresh chapter in the unstable area has now presented itself. It shouldn’t be thrown out carelessly.
