The BJP has characterised it as hate speech and claimed that the main goal of the recently formed alliance is the complete eradication of Hindu dharma. Udhayanidhi has declared that he has articulated the views of the downtrodden people and is willing to accept the consequences, unfazed by the criticism.

With his outburst, Udhayanidhi put the Opposition coalition as well as his party in a precarious position. The DMK leader would have been in a solid position if he had challenged Hindutva, a political project. Instead, he opted to disparage Sanatan Dharma, which is referred to as the eternal natural way as well as an antiquated religious and philosophical system.
The phrase is essentially associated with the Hindu way of life and religion. It wouldn’t be incorrect to conclude that Udhayanidhi attempted to undermine Hinduism by blaming Sanatan Dharma for a number of social ills.

With only three months until the Assembly elections in five states, the incendiary remark has provided the BJP with plenty of ammunition to attack the Opposition. The consecration of the Ram Lalla statue is set for the grounds of the still-under-construction Ram temple in Ayodhya in January of next year, and the ruling party will stop at nothing to increase the size of its Hindu voter base in the years leading up to the general election of 2024. Given that the DMK is a significant southern member of the anti-BJP alliance, it will be difficult for the opposition to handle the difficult scenario.
