In the meantime, Hamas has stated its desire to see all Palestinian prisoners of war released by Israel as well as a halt to Israeli provocations in the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem, notably at the Al-Aqsa shrine.

In April of this year, conflicts between Palestinians and Israeli police were reported on the mosque site, a recurring flashpoint in Jerusalem. While the US-led West and India have denounced the terror attack, the Arab world has generally responded with caution. There has been a great deal of conjecture over Iran’s role in the daring assault following its declaration that it will stand by the Palestinian fighters until the liberation of Palestine and Jerusalem.

For West Asia and the entire world, which is already in turmoil due to the Russia-Ukraine war, the intensification of hostilities is bad news.Israel is carrying out its mission in a usually merciless way because it is not known for worrying too much about how the rest of the world will react to its haughtiness.
The greater picture, which Israel has been maintaining via its continuous occupation of Palestinian territories, cannot be hidden by the Hamas attack. Contrasting sharply with the excesses it has been committing against Palestinians are Tel Aviv’s efforts to normalize diplomatic and commercial ties with Arab nations like Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Israel has the force to win this time as well, but if it does little to nothing to promote long-term peace in the unrest-plagued region, its victory will be a pyrrhic one.
