The fate of the Congress is a particular concern because the party stands to lose a lot. In Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, it is attempting to maintain control. It has been on a freebie-declaring binge for the electorate in both states. Additionally, it has increased calls for a caste census and an OBC quota inside the women’s quota, which may change the electoral system.

Failure will damage the Congress’ reputation as the head of INDIA, the coalition of opposition parties formed to combat the BJP. The BJP, on the other hand, is aggressively courting supporters away from the grand old party and betting on anti-incumbency.  In Madhya Pradesh, where the BJP is responsible for fighting incumbent governments, the responsibilities of the two parties are inverted. However, the inclusion of smaller parties in the contest as well as the internal strife between the Congress and the BJP could throw off their projections.

The BRS, which is in power, will face up against the Congress and the BJP in Telangana. There are conflicting messages coming out of the southern state: while the Congress has claimed that the BRS is cozying up to the BJP after making a pact with it, there is a rumour that the CM, K Chandrashekar Rao, is targeting a national position in 2024 and has refrained from joining INDIA or the NDA. The Zoram People’s Movement and the Mizo National Front, which is currently in power, are competing in Mizoram. Let the voting begin.
