While protests are taking place in Lebanon, Iraq has announced three days of mourning .In sharp contrast, US President Joe Biden immediately handed Israel the clean sheet, demonstrating his unwillingness to investigate the topic further. 
    Biden arrived in Tel Aviv on Wednesday as part of a solidarity visit. Although it’s easier said than done, PM Modi is correct to insist that individuals responsible for the hospital disaster be held accountable. The International Criminal Court’s Rome Statute defines war crimes as acts of military aggression against structures like hospitals.

    International humanitarian law protects hospitals and medical professionals, but the system for determining responsibility in the event of a violation has repeatedly shown itself to be dreadfully insufficient. Similar to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the UN is completely powerless to stop hostilities or stop Israel and Hamas from flouting international law. 
    There has been an increasing number of calls for an urgent ceasefire since October 7, with thousands of lives lost. The massacre at the Al-Ahli hospital serves as a warning to the international community, which needs to act decisively to end the cycle of killings of civilians in Gaza.
