The 73-year-old veteran politician is still pursuing a fourth term as prime minister, but his conviction is still in effect. Nawaz’s certain comeback is a clear indication that his erratic relationship with the military, which dominates Pakistani politics, is currently amicable.

    It’s a long way from 2018, when Nawaz claimed it was supporting Imran Khan, his primary opponent. Following a rift with the military, Imran is currently behind bars on corruption-related accusations.Though it’s unknown exactly how things will work out, there’s a feeling of du00e9ju00e0 vu. 
    Their fate will be decided via appeals, but for now, neither Nawaz nor Imran are able to challenge. The return of Shehbaz Sharif, the party’s prime minister from 2022 until earlier this year, gives it a boost ahead of the national election in January. It’s difficult to chip away at Imran’s support base since he’s still very popular.

    Pakistan is dealing with simultaneous political, economic, and security issues. Nawaz would have a difficult time making a name for himself in spite of the military support. Pakistan has been struggling with skyrocketing debt and unprecedented inflation. 
    Nawaz, who is highly concerned about the health of the economy, has attempted to reframe the conversation about India. He asserted that no nation can advance if it is at war with its neighbours. Scepticism may be the only reasonable response for New Delhi. Any meaningful reengagement must begin with the elimination of cross-border terrorism. On that measure, Nawaz and his backers have a very poor record.
