In order to “keep the force in a comfortable position,” the panel has advised that the government take into consideration purchasing fifth-generation fighter aircraft “over the counter” without “losing time.”
In light of the seemingly sluggish progress being made to acquire 114 multi-role fighter aircraft (MRFA), the committee has recommended this course of action. The IAF started the about $18 billion acquisition process for the MRFA in April of 2019.

Despite the fact that the IAF now has 31 fighter aircraft squadrons compared to the authorized strength of 42, airpower remains crucial in this regard. Procurement must move quickly in order to prevent any compromise of the IAF’s fighting capability.

The decline in the R&D funding share of the Defense Research and Development Organization’s expenditures is another reason for concern. Increased funding for research and development is necessary to support the “Make in India” campaign. The commission has also suggested that realistic goals be established for the theaterization of the military.
This crucial integration, which calls for the best possible use of available resources, has already been excessively delayed. A country with one of the most powerful militaries in the world cannot afford to display any weakness or indifference that the opponent could take advantage of.
