Even though India has praised France for a “quick resolution” of the issue, the French authorities are still looking into the matter.
The aircraft, run by a private Romanian firm, had taken off from Dubai and had a technical stay at Vatry Airport in France. Following a tip, the French authorities detained two passengers for suspected involvement in illegal immigration and interrogated the crew. Notably, 11 unaccompanied youngsters were included on the flyers.
The fact that a number of passengers have applied for asylum in France suggests that they have turned to Plan B after their initial attempt to go to Nicaragua, from where they were likely to enter the US illegally, was unsuccessful.
Due to the alleged ease of obtaining travel credentials, desperate migrants favour Nicaragua, the largest country in Central America. Over 96,000 Indians attempted to enter the US illegally in 2022–2023 (a 51.61 percent increase from the previous fiscal year), according to US Customs and Border Patrol. More than 41,000 of them ventured across the border into Mexico.

The infamous donkey/dunki route is a dangerous one that keeps getting worse. In the sweltering Arizona desert in 2019, a six-year-old Punjabi girl lost her life to heat stroke after her mother abandoned her and fellow migrants in search of water. The horrifying boat tragedies in Malta (1996) and Panama (2016) demonstrate that dishonest travel operators have little compunction about endangering lives.
The French-identified unclear matter needs to be investigated thoroughly by the Indian authorities. In order to take action against multinational cartels that profit from human trafficking, close cooperation between the immigration departments of the US, India, Central American countries, and other relevant parties is essential.
