The Sunni terrorist organisation Jaish al-Adl is said to have destroyed two of its bases one day after Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guards fired missiles at targets in Syria and Iraq.
Pakistan has recalled its ambassador to Iran, denouncing the event as a “unprovoked violation” of its sovereignty. Islamabad claims that the “illegal” deed happened in spite of the fact that Pakistan and Iran have multiple established channels of contact.

Remarkably, on the fringes of the World Economic Forum meeting in Davos, Switzerland, that same day, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian met with Pakistan’s acting prime minister, Anwaar Ul Haq Kakar. The US-led airstrikes on Houthi targets in Yemen and the Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza coincide with the Iranian attacks.
Iran supports the Houthis, who have been attacking ships in the Red Sea, and Hamas, who launched a daring attempt on Israel on October 7. At a memorial event on January 3rd, honouring Iranian commander Qassem Soleimani, who was killed in a US drone attack in 2020, about 100 individuals lost their lives in two bombs.

In the southeast Iranian province of Sistan-Baluchestan, at least eleven police officers were slain in an attack on a police station last month. Pakistan maintains that all of the countries in the region are threatened by terrorism, but it is not doing enough to assist in eliminating the threat and build confidence with its neighbours, particularly India. Pakistan finds itself further mired in trouble after incurring the wrath of Iran, which the US and its allies have long considered to be a rogue state.
