According to the proposal, Israel would maintain permanent authority over Gaza’s security while its chosen “contractors” would handle the region’s governance. It makes cryptic allusions to a deradicalization strategy, leaves out the Palestinian Authority, and suggests that certain Arab nations may be involved.

Israel would keep watch over the region west of Jordan, monitoring Gaza from the air, land, and sea. The primary reason for the ongoing violence is not only the PM’s firm denial of a two-state solution, but also the oppressive actions of Israeli security forces and illegal settlers. Netanyahu is essentially planting the seeds for another confrontation by suggesting that Gaza become a Union Territory of Israel, governed by collaborators and under the watchful eye of its army.

Additionally, the plan disregards Gaza’s moral and human dimensions after the war. Regarding the actions of the 20 lakh Gazans, nothing is known. With whom will the ejected UN assistance organisations be replaced?

The US has even stated that it opposes the initiative. Israel’s proposal to establish a puppet government with the army making all the decisions will only serve to fuel more explosive anger since it ignores the fundamental cause of the disturbance, which is the demand for a Palestinian state. A persistently unstable security environment may result in Israel’s exclusion from the India-Middle East-Europe corridor, which would be detrimental to Tel Aviv’s economic interests.
