This move comes amid a controversy surrounding the vaccine. The company justified their decision by citing a “surplus of available updated vaccines” and citing commercial considerations.

AstraZeneca has asserted that the timing of the vaccination withdrawal is merely coincidental and has nothing to do with the legal dispute it is currently facing. Nonetheless, the action is perceived as a desperate attempt at damage management.

Given that TTS has been connected to hundreds of major injuries and at least 81 deaths in the UK, the company’s legal problems are unlikely to be resolved anytime soon. More than fifty alleged victims and their families have filed a lawsuit at the London High Court of Justice, seeking damages.

A petition regarding the AstraZeneca vaccine, which was produced in India by the Pune-based Serum Institute of India, has been accepted for consideration by the Supreme Court of India. The petitioner has demanded that the government provide compensation in cases when people die or become crippled after receiving an injection, as well as the formation of an expert panel to look into the aforementioned negative effect.

AstraZeneca’s declaration that patient safety is its top focus is insufficient. Unquestionably, Covishield and Vaxzevria were crucial in stopping the global pandemic and saving millions of lives, but TTS’s negative effects on health cannot be ignored.

A comprehensive investigation is urgently required. It is also necessary to hold the regulatory bodies accountable, as it appears that they did not uphold the strict guidelines necessary to guarantee the vaccine was used safely. In addition to the responsibility and legitimacy of vaccine manufacturers, the people’s general belief in the safety of vaccines is at risk.
