Black flags are being waved and party leaders and candidates are being prevented from accessing communities, especially in Majha and Malwa. State BJP leader Sunil Jakhar filed a complaint with the state’s chief electoral officer last week, citing the AAP government’s alleged failure to provide equal opportunities for all candidates, in response to these interruptions.
The BJP, among other competitors, is not persuaded by the Punjab Police’s claims that they are taking precautions to guarantee their safety. The Dilli Chalo agitation was started by state farmers earlier this year in an attempt to obtain a legal guarantee for the minimum support price (MSP).

Nevertheless, the BJP-ruled government of Haryana used a harsh tactic to keep them from getting to the capital. Despite several meetings between the Center and certain farm unions, the MSP problem has not been resolved.
In the state, where it is operating independently after its attempts to patch things up with the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), a former partner, failed, the BJP faces a difficult task. In 2021, the SAD broke away from the NDA because of farmers’ unhappiness with the controversial agriculture legislation that the Centre had passed.

The state’s farming community was not won over by the BJP even after the laws were repealed, as seen in January 2022 when demonstrators forced PM Modi to return from a campaign rally in Ferozepur without speaking. The saffron party cannot afford to overlook the frustration and suffering of the farmers in the area, especially as its nominees are also being scorched in several rural areas of Haryana. The claimed violation of the candidates’ freedom to campaign must also be looked into, and those responsible for the errors must be held accountable.
