The attacks, which resulted in the injuries of the visiting pair and the death of ex-sarpanch Aijaz Sheikh, serve as another reminder of how dangerous it is for the security personnel to drop their guard.
It is obvious that the violence is an attempt to sabotage Kashmir’s election process. Baramulla polls are open today, while the Anantnag-Rajouri seat will be voted on on May 25.The attacks have been denounced by prominent political parties such as the BJP, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and the National Conference (NC).

Notably, Sheikh was connected to the BJP, which is not participating in the Valley’s election. Expectations of a similarly strong reaction from voters in the Baramulla and Anantnag-Rajouri constituencies have increased in light of the positive turnout (36%) in the Srinagar constituency last week, which was far higher than the 14.4% recorded in the 2019 General Election.
To stop terrorists from assaulting locals, visitors, and migrant workers, the Center must fortify security in these regions. Voting fearlessly should be encouraged in order to convey a clear statement that J&K is returning to normalcy. In order to comfort voters, candidates and other political figures must play a significant role.

The exciting Kashmiri poll battles shouldn’t be overshadowed by terror strikes. The People’s Conference leader Sajad Gani Lone and former chief minister Omar Abdullah are the main contenders in the Baramulla contest, but Sheikh Abdul Rashid, a wild card entrant, is keeping them both on their toes. Known by most as “Engineer Rashid,” he was detained in the lead-up to Article 370’s revocation in 2019 and remains imprisoned. A multi-cornered struggle is also taking place for the post-delimitation Anantnag-Rajouri seat, with PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti facing off against Mian Altaf Ahmad of the NC and Zafar Iqbal Manhas of the BJP-backed Apni Party.
