Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has issued a defamation notice to Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut. This action follows an article by Raut, which made serious allegations against Shinde’s son, Shrikant Shinde. Raut had claimed that Shrikant hired a Thane-based criminal to kill him. These claims were published in the party’s mouthpiece, Saamana, and were perceived as defamatory by Shinde’s camp.

The controversy escalated when the Thane police registered an FIR against Raut. The charges included sections of the Indian Penal Code related to defamation, promoting enmity, and making false accusations with intent to harm . Shinde’s team has stated that these allegations are baseless and have been made with the intent to malign the reputation of the Chief Minister and his family

Raut, on the other hand, has stood by his claims, insisting that there have been increasing threats to political figures in the state and urging the government to address the deteriorating law and order situation in Maharashtra .
