In a candid and bold statement, Riyan Parag, the 22-year-old cricketer from Assam, has expressed his disinterest in following the ongoing T20 World Cup, despite his breakout performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) this season.

Parag, known for his forthright comments, was asked to predict the top four teams in the T20 World Cup. His response was strikingly unconventional. “It will be a biased answer (prediction on top four teams), but to be very honest, I don’t even want to watch the World Cup. I’ll just see who is winning it at the end and I’ll be happy. When I will play the World Cup, I will think about top four and all of that,” Parag stated during a chat with The Bharat Army.

This declaration comes on the heels of Parag’s remarkable IPL season, where he amassed 573 runs at a strike-rate close to 150, batting at No.4 for the Rajasthan Royals. His impressive performance stands in stark contrast to his previous seasons’ modest totals, which had been a subject of criticism.

Parag’s confidence extends beyond the IPL. He recently affirmed his belief that he would play for India in the future. “At some point, you’ll have to take me, right? So that is my belief, I’m going to play for India. I don’t really care when,” he told PTI in an interview.

The ICC T20 World Cup, jointly hosted by the USA and West Indies, commenced on June 2. Despite the global excitement, Parag’s lack of enthusiasm underscores his focus on personal and professional growth rather than merely spectating.

Following his stellar IPL season, there are speculations that Parag, along with Abhishek Sharma and Harshit Rana, may be selected for India’s tour of Zimbabwe post-T20 World Cup. His recent performances have significantly bolstered his prospects, aligning with his aspirations to represent India on the international stage.

Parag’s outspoken nature and confidence have sometimes been perceived as arrogance, but his determination and recent performance suggest a player driven by ambition and self-belief. As he continues to rise, his journey will be one to watch, regardless of his current disinterest in the T20 World Cup
