European political leaders have expressed strong support for former U.S. President Donald Trump following his historic conviction on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records. This marks the first time a former American president has been convicted of a criminal offense. Despite the legal setback, Trump’s European allies are framing the verdict as politically motivated.

    Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini labeled the conviction as “judicial harassment” and likened it to the weaponization of the justice system by political opponents, a scenario he claims is familiar in Italy.     Russia echoed these sentiments, suggesting a political conspiracy behind Trump’s conviction. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov described the legal proceedings as an obvious attempt to eliminate political rivals through both legal and illegal means.

    In contrast, other European nations have remained diplomatically silent on the matter, with leaders such as British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and German officials declining to comment, adhering to standard protocol when addressing another nation’s domestic affairs​
