The BJP had high hopes for big political rewards, particularly in the Hindi belt, from PM Narendra Modi’s temple inauguration. The BJP was taken aback when the Samajwadi Party (SP) took the Faizabad parliamentary seat in the Ayodhya district.
A BJP supporter openly acknowledged that while the Ram Mandir’s magnificence may have delighted visitors, the town’s citizens were not pleased with the inconveniences they had to endure. The shift in UP’s fortunes was epitomised by the Ayodhya upset, where the powerful BJP was overshadowed by the SP-Congress alliance, who performed exceptionally well.

It was no small accomplishment for the Opposition team. Over the previous ten years, the BJP had virtually grown unbeatable in the state. Out of 80 Lok Sabha seats, the saffron party secured 71 in 2014 and 62 five years later. The triumphs in the 2022 and 2017 Assembly elections were also noteworthy.
The party was poised to make a comeback in the 2024 elections under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, but Akhilesh Yadav of the Samajwadi Party and the Gandhi siblings had other plans.

Akhilesh has credited the troika of Dalits, minorities, and members of the lower classes for the INDIA bloc’s overwhelming win in Uttar Pradesh. Based on the principles of PDA (Pichhada, Dalit, and Alpsankhyak) unity, the coalition fought the elections.
Wallowing in complacency, the BJP went overboard with communal polarisation and seized any chance to make fun of the Congress and the SP. Voters fiercely resisted this divisive tactic, limiting the BJP to 33 seats in the state and dashing its prospects of winning a majority in the Lok Sabha on its own.
