He took the oath of office as chief minister on Wednesday in front of senior BJP leaders and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In the southern state’s simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, the alliance consisting of the TDP, BJP, and Janasena Party emerged victorious, capturing 21 out of 25 Lok Sabha seats and 164 out of 175 Assembly seats.
Notably, with 135 MLAs, the TDP holds the majority in the Andhra House by itself. Because of Naidu’s advantageous position in the grand scheme of things, there have been rumours that he may put pressure on Modi to follow through on giving AP special category status (SCS).

The Congress has escalated their opposition to the PM by claiming that he has not kept the promise he made in Tirupati in March 2014. Andhra’s claim for SCS is based on the revenue loss that the state’s bifurcation—which resulted in Telangana’s creation under the AP Reorganisation Act in February 2014—is said to have caused.
The cabinet of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of Bihar, another state headed by the NDA, approved a motion in November 2023 requesting this status. The extent to which Naidu and Nitish will sacrifice themselves for the benefit of their individual states will determine how stable the Modi 3.0 government is.

In contrast, the BJP’s position in Odisha, where tribal leader Mohan Charan Majhi became the party’s first chief minister, is quite clear-cut and uncomplicated. With an outstanding victory in the most recent Assembly elections, the saffron party put an end to the lengthy rule of the Biju Janata Dal, led by Naveen Patnaik. Maintaining the growth momentum that Odisha experienced under Naveen’s leadership would be Majhi’s task.
