N. Chandrababu Naidu’s tenure as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, starting in June 2014, was marked by a series of transformative decisions aimed at rebuilding and modernizing the state after its bifurcation. Here are his first five significant decisions:
Amaravati as the Capital: One of Naidu’s most consequential decisions was selecting Amaravati as the new capital of Andhra Pradesh. Faced with the challenge of establishing a new administrative center post-bifurcation, Naidu envisioned Amaravati as a futuristic city, aiming to develop it as a major economic and technological hub.

Government Jobs to Families Affected by Bifurcation: In a bid to address the displacement and economic disruption caused by the state’s bifurcation, Naidu announced the provision of government jobs to one member of each affected family. This move was designed to stabilize the workforce and provide immediate relief to those who lost livelihoods due to the administrative shifts.

Focus on Skill Development: Understanding the importance of a skilled workforce for economic growth, Naidu launched initiatives to bolster skill development. This included establishing the Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC) aimed at providing training and enhancing the employability of youth in the state.
Priority on IT and Startups: Naidu, known for his earlier successes in transforming Hyderabad into a tech hub, made fostering the IT sector and startup ecosystem a priority. He initiated policies to attract investments and set up IT parks, aiming to replicate this success in Andhra Pradesh.
Skill Census and Employment Mapping: To strategically align the state’s educational and vocational training programs with market demands, Naidu’s government conducted a comprehensive skill census. This census aimed to identify the existing skills within the population and assess employment potential, thereby aiding in effective workforce planning and targeted development programs.
Through these decisions, Naidu set the groundwork for Andhra Pradesh’s economic development, with a vision to create a prosperous, forward-looking state.
