In a significant development, the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) has once again suspended Indian wrestler Bajrang Punia. This comes just three weeks after his previous suspension was revoked by NADA’s Anti-Disciplinary Doping Panel (ADDP) on May 31.

The suspension, issued on June 23, 2024, follows Punia’s refusal to provide a urine sample during the selection trials held in Sonepat on March 10. NADA’s notice of charge cites a violation of Article 2.3 of the National Anti-Doping Rules, 2021. Punia has until July 11 to request a hearing or accept the charge.

Punia has maintained that he did not refuse to give the sample but sought clarification on why expired kits were used for sample collection in December 2023. Despite several requests from the Doping Control Officer (DCO), Punia insisted on a response from NADA before complying.

This suspension could have serious implications for Punia’s career, including the potential disqualification of results and forfeiture of medals, points, and prizes if the Anti-Doping Rule Violation (ADRV) is upheld.
