The Indian government has announced a 10% reservation for former Agniveers in the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Border Security Force (BSF), and Railway Protection Force (RPF). This move aims to provide enhanced career opportunities for those who have completed their tenure under the Agnipath scheme. The Agnipath scheme, introduced in 2022, recruits young soldiers for a four-year term in the Indian Armed Forces, after which a portion of them are absorbed into regular service, while the rest are released with a financial package.

In addition to the reservation, ex-Agniveers will benefit from age relaxations. For general category candidates, the upper age limit is extended by five years, while for SC/ST/OBC candidates, it is extended by eight years. This age relaxation is expected to make the recruitment process more inclusive and accessible for those who have served the country under the Agnipath scheme.

These initiatives are part of the government’s broader strategy to ensure that the skills and experiences gained by Agniveers are utilized effectively in other security services, thereby enhancing national security. The reservation and age relaxation policies are also seen as a step towards honoring the commitment and sacrifices made by these young soldiers.
