Pakistan’s left-arm speedster, Shaheen Afridi, faces possible consequences from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) following reports of his accused misconduct towards coaches. As a result, Afridi may find himself excluded from the squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh.

The controversy stems from Afridi’s behavior during training sessions. Details have emerged about his inappropriate conduct towards assistant coach Azhar Mahmood. Additionally, during the England tour preceding the 2024 T20 World Cup, Afridi consistently bowled no balls in the nets at Headingley. Batting coach Mohammad Yousuf pointed this out, but Afridi responded bluntly, saying, “Let me practice for now and don’t talk in the middle.” The heated exchange led to Afridi’s reprimand and a subsequent apology in front of the entire team.

This incident adds to Afridi’s tumultuous year. He lost the T20I captaincy after just one bilateral series, accused the PCB of forging quotes in his name, and faced rumors of a rift with Babar Azam. Pakistan’s early exit from the T20 World Cup further compounded his challenges.

Apart from Afridi’s absence, the Men in Green may miss several other senior players during the Bangladesh tour. Skipper Shan Masood and new head coach Jason Gillespie aim to utilize the series to test domestic talent. The red-ball series against Bangladesh, part of the World Test Championship (WTC) cycle, is scheduled to begin on August 21
