The L-G has the authority to decide on issues pertaining to public order, the police, and all-India services officials in addition to approving the prosecution of certain crimes. According to the Center, in order to facilitate the efficient administration of the Union Territory, the rules have been modified to explicitly define and demarcate the powers of the legislative Assembly and the roles of the L-G. 

    However, the opposition views the action as an attempt to erode the authority of a duly elected government.Ever since the BJP-PDP alliance disintegrated in 2018, the state that was once known as UT, has been without an elected government.

    In light of the Supreme Court’s deadline of September 30 for holding the Assembly elections, the timing of the judgement has raised questions and concerns. Concerns have also been expressed concerning the restoration of J&K’s statehood, for which the Centre has not yet provided a schedule in spite of the court’s directive to move things along quickly. 

    Following a wave of terror incidents, the security situation has gotten worse, making it more difficult for the government to hold free, fair, and peaceful elections. It will be the L-G’s responsibility to include all interested parties during the election process.The Chief Minister’s and Delhi L-G’s frequent altercations have had a negative effect on Capital governance recently.

    The people of J&K, whose citizens demonstrated their trust in democracy by voting enthusiastically in the most recent Lok Sabha elections, would be well advised by the Center to refrain from imposing such a disruptive paradigm there. It’s time for the people living in the conflict-ridden area to start over. Discord and strife should not tarnish the possible fresh dawn.
