Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has strongly criticized the NITI Aayog and called for the revival of the Planning Commission. In her recent statements, Banerjee argued that the Planning Commission was more effective in addressing regional disparities and allocating resources based on a comprehensive assessment of states’ needs. She expressed concerns that the NITI Aayog, established in 2015 as a replacement for the Planning Commission, lacks the same level of authority and effectiveness in addressing the developmental challenges faced by states.

Banerjee emphasized that the Planning Commission played a crucial role in ensuring equitable development across the country by formulating and monitoring five-year plans, which helped in reducing regional imbalances. She accused the NITI Aayog of failing to meet these objectives and asserted that the current system does not provide adequate support or resources to state governments.
