Even in Bollywood, he has made a name for himself with films such as Udta Punjab (2016), Phillauri (2017), Good Newwz (2019), and others. The actor will now be seen in the film Jogi. It will be released on Netflix on September 16th, directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, who also directed Sultan (2016) and Tiger Zinda Hai (2017).
Netflix staged a star-studded event today called ‘Netflix Projects Day,’ where they revealed and discussed their future films in the presence of its actors and directors. Ali Abbas Zafar, producer Hemanshu Mehra, and actress Amyra Dastur presented the Jogi trailer to members of the media exclusively here.
According to the teaser, Diljit Dosanjh will be seen without a turban for a significant portion of the film. Jogi is based on the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. To conceal his Sikh identity, Diljit’s character is depicted removing his turban and cutting his hair with a sad heart. This is most likely the first time Diljit Dosanjh would be seen in a film without his turban. In reality, Diljit claimed in a 2018 interview, My favourite Bollywood filmmakers have given me roles that I am unable to accept because they need me to remove my turban, which is not doable. My turban symbolises both my identity and my emotion.
However, Diljit Dosanjh, who attended the ceremony via video chat while in London, stated that Jogi is an important film for him and recounts a significant narrative from our past. As a result, it’s clear why the actor changed his rule.
A similar moment was seen earlier this month in Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha. It depicted Mona Singh’s character chopping off her son’s hair in order to save him from the violent riots in 1984.
