According to The Hollywood Reporter, a group of locals confronted a production driver on Friday and stated that they would only allow filming to continue if paid $50,000, as first reported by the Baltimore Banner over the weekend. According to the Baltimore Police Department, the driver refused to pay and the gang threatened to come back later this evening [and] shoot someone if production proceeded. After finding another venue, the production leaders opted to err on the side of safety and delay the shot, a department official said.
Here’s how the events followed through –
Lady in the Lake is set in 1960s Baltimore, where an unsolved murder inspires a housewife and mother to reinvent herself as an investigative journalist. According to the production description, this puts her on a collision course with a hardworking lady juggling family, multiple jobs, and a deep devotion to pushing Baltimore’s Black progressive agenda. The series was based on Laura Lippman’s best-selling novel of the same name.
According to THR, the production’s studio,Friday afternoon, prior to the arrival of the cast and crew on the Baltimore set of our production Lady in the Lake… a driver on our production crew was confronted by two men, one of whom brandished a gun directed at our driver, and then they fled the location. As the inquiry continues, we are collaborating with the Baltimore Police Department.
The safety and security of our staff, cast, and everyone who works throughout our projects is our utmost priority, and we are happy no one was wounded, the statement said. Production will restart with enhanced security measures in the future. It was an honour to film Lady in the Lake in Baltimore and collaborate with its lively community in a variety of ways.
According to the source, the move comes after FX’s Justified: City Primeval was forced to halt filming in Chicago in July when two automobiles containing people firing firearms at each other drove through the production’s barriers.
