Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President PT Usha has strongly criticized the IOA Executive Committee (EC) for their failure to organize a felicitation ceremony for India’s medal winners at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Despite India’s impressive haul of six medals, including one silver and five bronze, Usha expressed deep disappointment over the committee’s “extreme insensitivity” towards celebrating the athletes’ achievements.

Usha had repeatedly proposed the idea of honoring these athletes, including Manu Bhaker, Neeraj Chopra, and the men’s hockey team, but the EC ignored her suggestions. She pointed out that even during the Tokyo Olympics, held amid the COVID-19 pandemic, a similar ceremony was arranged under the previous leadership. Usha also highlighted that the Finance Committee and the IOA treasurer blocked a grant proposal aimed at supporting Olympic-bound athletes and coaches, reflecting a broader disregard for their preparation and well-being

In her letter, Usha emphasized that it is the IOA’s duty to acknowledge the hard work and sacrifices of athletes who bring pride to the nation, stressing that their achievements should not be overlooked by the current leadership
