The Samajwadi Party (SP) has decided to leave the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance in Maharashtra, primarily due to disagreements with Shiv Sena (UBT) over the Babri Masjid demolition and unresolved seat-sharing issues ahead of the upcoming state elections. SP leader Abu Azmi cited Shiv Sena’s historical stance on the Babri Masjid as a key reason, calling their past actions “unforgivable.” This move is significant as it highlights long-standing tensions within the alliance.

Additionally, the SP was dissatisfied with the lack of clarity regarding seat-sharing. The MVA reportedly allocated 85 seats each to Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and the NCP, leaving only 33 seats for smaller allies like SP. Despite reducing their demand to five seats, SP leaders received no assurance, prompting the party to plan to contest independently on 20 seats.

This development underscores the challenges faced by the MVA in maintaining unity among its partners, potentially affecting its electoral strategy.
